Secretary P&D Iftikhar Ali said here on Friday that under this scheme of Punjab police, office buildings would be constructed and security cameras along with allied specialties would also be installed on the roads in cities of Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala and Bahawalpur at the total cost of Rs 39,852.71 million. Under this scheme, Safe City Project would be replicated in these cities, he said, adding: The Punjab government is committed to protect the lives of people by ensuring maintenance of law & order in the province.
Sources said target has been assigned to launch the project in Rawalpindi, Faisalabad, Multan, Gujranwala and Bahawalpur by the end of 2017. The sources claimed that about 8,000 surveillance cameras, costing Rs 12 billion, will be watching over the Lahore City under the phased Punjab Safe City Project. The Punjab government undertook the project in collaboration with leading Chinese company Huawei. A huge screen had been installed in the command and control centre in Qurban Lines which was the biggest screen of Asia.
Monitoring of different areas was being carried out on the screens set up at the center and a vigilant eye would be kept on criminal elements. Moreover, the PPDWP in its 44th meeting of current fiscal year 2016-17, also accorded approval of seven development schemes of various sectors with an estimated cost of Rs 23913.045 million.
The approved development schemes included: rehabilitation/widening of 10'-12' and construction of 12' wide roads under "Khadam-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme (KPRRP)," Phase-IV at the cost of Rs 6938.000 million, rehabilitation of Khadam-e-Punjab Rural Roads Program (KPRRP), Phase-IV in Punjab Highways Department, North Zone), Umbrella PC-I at the cost of Rs 8022.787 million, Construction of Khadam-e-Punjab Rural Roads Programme (KPRRP), Phase-IV in Punjab Highways Department, North Zone. Umbrella PC-I at the cost of Rs 990.030 million, provision of missing specialties for upgradation of DHQ Hospitals (AIMH & GSBH Sialkot) to teaching hospitals, (Part-I) at the cost of Rs 3802.707 million, provision of missing facilities for upgradation of DHQ Hospital D G Khan into teaching hospital, D G Khan. (Revised) at the cost of Rs 3634.199 million, provision of clean drinking water, sewerage system, PCC and allied facilities in Jallo More, Batapur and adjoining Abadies Lahore at the cost of Rs 500.000 million and consultancy services for major programme management support project, Stage-I (PC-II) at the cost of Rs 25.322 million.
